Just fucking fantastic! And once I saw that, and remembered how much obvious love and care went into this film, I knew why I had such a fond memories of it.Īnd I think this sense of craftsmanship and just general giving-a-shit from everyone involved permeates the rest of the film, all the way to the last frame. In the beginning of the film we're dropped into New York City during the 1930s and I was immediately struck by the incredible recreation of NYC during that time. Having now re-watched it, I really do think it's a very good movie. But it seems that, over time, it has become one of those movies that people look back at and re-asses and say, "Maybe it wasn't that good after all." When this film first came out, it was well-received and many of those original reviews make up its 84% RT score. After all, it's been 10 years and I recently found myself in the position of having to defend it in discussions for Kong: Skull Island, so I figured what the hell, I could use a refresher. So last night I ran across Peter Jackson's 2005 adaptation of King Kong and decided to give it another look.
